Micros Meltdown
Author: Lewil | February 25, 2007 on 7:13 pm | In Everything Matters | No CommentsJust a big thanks to James in IT. Our Micros started doin really weird things in the middle of a Sunday afternoon. Servers would have screens full of duplicate checks or checks that belonged to other servers or the pool counter. I couldn’t access the control panel from the back office computer (or access anything else for that matter) I sensed some stress coming on.
The IT Emergency Number in our office says to call, and someone will call back within 2 hours. TWO HOURS???? Break out the crash kit.
But before I could even get the knuckle buster credit card swiper out of the box, James was calling on the phone. While his internet was down, he had to walk me through bringing the system down and back up.
Catastrophe averted. Thanks James

Dear Jillian’s Family, My husband and I wanted to express our sincere gratitude for the adorable gifts that you sent (via my mother Patricia Oyeshiku) for our new daughter Jillian who was born this past Saturday, February 10th. Since my husband and I met at the Jillian’s restaurant in Columbia, SC in January 1999, we have had a wonderful life together. When we found out that we were having a little girl, we didn’t hesitate to name her after Jillian’s because it holds a such a special place in our hearts. We figure that if it hadn’t been for Jillian’s, our precious daughter would not be here. Again, we truly appreciate your kindness and generosity. We cannot wait until our Jillian is old enough to hear about the other “Jillian”. Sincerely, James, Chaundrissa, and Jillian Smith Atlanta, GA |

Your FUN is our Business!
Author: gstevens | February 15, 2007 on 11:06 am | In Chief of Fun!, All for Fun | No CommentsI’m listening to The Who’s “Who are you?” as I write this. Thought it would be an appropriate song as it is basically the question that I intend to answer with this posting. Perhaps better phrased…Who are we? The easy answer…we are Jillian’s. But that’s just a name, and we all know that who we are, is so much more deep and interesting than the name. Who we are, really comes down to core values that we believe in…When I came to the company in December I asked about our core values and someone gave me a list that was developed back in 2005. It had 16 values listed including things like “Operate with a Sense of Urgency”, “Find Clarity in Complexity”, and “Problem Solve not simply Problem Find” I’m not kidding….This is a published document that supposedly tells us who we are??? Does anyone know what these mean? Does anyone have our Core Values displayed in the facility? Do we live these core values every day? I doubt it…. Throw them out…start again.
For the past 60 days, I’ve been talking to a lot of you about who we are, and there are consistent themes I keep hearing in response….It really boils down to these simple realities…We are a community of people that care about the communities we exist in. We provide a place where people can get out and have some fun. Pretty simple. Our mission? The reason we exist?
Your Fun is our Business!
And the core values that we live by are.
Make it your own. We are an entrepreneurial company that encourages all our teammates to take pride of ownership in everything we do.
Be Real
Be Inviting
Be Involved
Embrace Opportunity Whether it is with our Event Sales team, our promotions, or opportunities to make things better in our communities we constantly have our eyes open for new opportunities.
Make a Difference We care about people and we will find ways to make a difference in our communities. This could be through fund raising, or volunteering, or contributing to programs like Jillian’s Has Heart!
Wow Everyone!
Everything Matters. Ours is a detail oriented business, and success is dependant on paying attention to all the small details.
This then is who we are…..and you’re going to hear a lot about these values over the coming year. I want to bring them alive and make sure that these values guide us in all the decisions we make and are part of everything we do. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

Mayor Jack grabbed some on air media attention by running a great event to raise money for the Adopt-a-Guardmen in Columbia. A great event, and a great example of making a difference in our communities! |
Love for the SF Team!
Author: gstevens | February 14, 2007 on 12:43 pm | In Unsolicited Feedback (no holds barred), WOW Stories | 2 CommentsThe letter below was written by Emily, a teammate in SF.
To whom it may concern,
Happy 2007!
I would like to start off the new year by taking a moment to sing the
praises of our management team in San Francisco. They are have been doing
tremendous job and it clearly the guests’ experience (and ours) the best it
can be! I would like to specifically mention our General Manager, Darren Des
Roches—he may not hear it very often, (and everyday would not even be
enough), but Darren is doing an amazing job and I am sure I speak for the
rest of the staff in San Francisco when I say how much his hard work and
dedication is appreciated.
Darren commands the respect of every last employee first and foremost by
exercising his own proactive work ethic. All have been witness to his daily
attention to detail to all aspects of the restaurant and club, making sure
our best foot is forward at all times. He will take the time to be an extra
helping hand in any situation, and always has an open ear for suggestions.
There is no measure to the quality of management and excellent interpersonal
skills are hard to come by, but Darren is top notch at what he does and he
proves it every day.
After almost 7 years bartending for Jillians, the last few have been at a
much higher calibur restaurant, or so it seems! And it is not only the staff
who are benefiting from his hard work but the guests are also receiving a
higher standard of service– a direct effect of his leadership.
I am sure the numbers make it very obvious how well our store has been doing
since
Darren has taken the reigns, but I thought you might also like to know that
besides our sales, he runs a tight and happy ship, making excellent service
possible—something that is actually very rare, even in a city known for it’s
restaurants!
Thank you for taking the time to listen and rest assured that SF is in good
hands!
Take care and enjoy the rest of the year!
Best,
Emily Petit
